[Gmod-ajax] Build Dojo

Jillian Rowe
Hello,

I have another question. I am wondering if anyone has any experience
creating a dojo build for JBrowse. I have been reading that this can cut
down on the initial load time. I suppose it would need the packages in
JBrowse/init.js and the plugins.

Best,
Jillian

Re: Build Dojo

Colin
When you build JBrowse, you generally include both dojo and JBrowse in the build cycle. This allows them to be minified together. In fact, when you use the minified JBrowse, you will see most of JBrowse inside of dojo.js.

If you are interested in making a new build, you need checkout jbrowse and it's submodules (dojo, etc) from github. The instructions are pretty detailed on the README file here https://github.com/GMOD/jbrowse

Also note a new release of JBrowse 1.11.5 is scheduled to be released soon if you want to wait for that!

Re: Build Dojo

Jillian Rowe
Hi Colin,

I am really not familiar with dojo builds. JBrowse is what introduced me to dojo and convinced me javascript was worthwhile in the first place.

http://dojotoolkit.org/documentation/tutorials/1.9/build/

I'm talking about doing a build as described here. Are we talking about the same thing?

Any idea on when 1.11.5 will be released? Before or after mid August?

Best,
Jillian

Re: Build Dojo

Colin
Hi Jillian,
There are build scripts included in jbrowse to do most of the heavy work, so you generally wouldn't have to be concerned with the details that are described in that article. To make a new jbrowse build, we generally just run "make -f build/Makefile release" on a github clone. If i'm missing something let me know. Also, if you want the latest build for beta testing let me know and I can send it by email.
Beta testers are always welcome btw!
