Log::Log4perl dependency in Chado code

Scott Cain
Hello all,

I'm thinking about yanking the dependency on Log::Log4perl in the
Chado codebase and replacing it with "warn if $DEBUG".  Does anybody
have any thoughts about that, either pro or con?

Thanks,
Scott

Re: Log::Log4perl dependency in Chado code

Josh Goodman

Hi all,

For the sake of the mail archive I'll summarize my thoughts from a #gmod IRC discussion.  I'm OK
with simplifying the dependency tree here if the code affected is mainly procedural loading code
that doesn't make heavy use of classes.  If it was highly OO based I would hesitate to remove it
because Log::Log4perl can be very useful in that case.  Scott says that this is not the case so my
vote is +1 to removing Log::Log4perl.
